Another Catan night

The Settlers of Catan is quite popular at game nights

This time was a flash back for the night with Rain and Peter couple. Totof and I hosted that night. Rain was a good cook. So, we did not want to disappoint them with some crappy food. After some discussions, we decided to cook instead of dinning out.

We wanted our guests to have a hearty meal. So, we picked Totof's signature dish - Daube de Poulet as entrée. The course was simple. Entrée directly. Then, salad. Then, the salad was followed by some cheese and bread. The dinner went well. Rain and Peter liked the chicken. Totof was happy. (he did not show much, but in his mind, he was thrilled when someone complimented his cooking) After everyone was satisfied, we started the game.

How about the Settlers?

Totof showed Rain and Peter his board game collections like a kid showed off his toys. The Settlers of Catan was picked. The Catan island was laid out quickly. The rules were mentioned. In 10 min, we started the game.

We could tell both Rain and Peter were smart type players. Learned fast. Captured the mechanics of the game quickly. Carefully expanded territory and maximized resources by good combination of hexes. There was an interesting chain. Rain attacked Peter. Peter attacked Totof. Totof then observed the whole situation and decided to attack me. I was robbed several times. Of course, I revenged. So did everyone else. At the beginning, Rain and I barely attacked each other. But, after 10 min, no one retained. Just attacked. One attack was followed by another attack. You saw attacks were all over the table. Sometimes attacks had impacts on multiple players. So you heard exclamations here and there. Rolling became so important. No one wanted to be attacked but everyone wanted to revenge for the previous loss. So every time when some one rolled the dice, you could sense some tense. Violent? No, more like fun attacks.

The game lasted around 2 and a half hour. I remember Rain won the game. See, I told you. Our guests were smart type. Totof and I did not have any advantage even though we played the Settlers of Catan before this night. We had a great time.
