Mini roses

What would be a romantic gift for your girl friend if you are a practical type?

One answer will be "giving her mini roses".

The mini roses package was my Valentine's gift. People always say French are romantic. But, I can tell you this saying does not always hold.

Totof is practical. A bouquet is not an ideal Valentine's gift because the flowers in the bouquet will die in a week or two. Another reason for not picking a bouquet is because he does not know how to mix flowers. I got his bouquet for my commencement. I did not know how to react when I saw the bouquet. The color struck my eyes. Not in a way I appreciated. Totof knew my opinion. So, next time, he picked an one-color bouquet. A bouquet with just wine color roses. The bouquet looked sweet. Absolutely this was something girls like.

Then, another bouquet. This time, he got it from Costco. I never confirmed this with him. But based on my understanding, he would go there to pay a wholesale price for a bouquet. It is something he does. This bouquet also had just one color flowers - plenty of wine color roses.

Maybe Totof realized that the previous wine color roses bouquet was successful. So, I got another wine color roses bouquet. This time, roses kept their cute condition forever. They did not blossom. I noticed that. So, I took advantage of this condition and dried them. I had dry roses in my bathroom. My friends like them. These roses keep their cuteness. Forever.

This year's Valentine's day, I got a gift bag from Totof. I never expected to receive a plant from him. Oh, what a cute plant. Pink roses were all over the place. Not the big one, but the tiny elegant one. I liked them. But, how to take care of these roses? I do not have a green thumb. Did these roses need sunshine? I guessed I needed to water them. But how often? Everyday? Every other day?

These roses absolutely were a test from Totof. He wanted me to learn something. Well, let's bring this on. I watered these roses everyday. With 2 sec water volume. I did not know if roses needed sunshine. So, initially, I did not get any sunshine for them. My roses looked under standard. Maybe they needed some sunlight. So, I scrolled my blinds up and put roses there every morning before I took off to work. I took it back to my desk every evening. I removed withered leaves. My roses looked vigorous.

I got many happy moments with mini roses. The most happy one was that when I saw a new flower popped up. The new flower kind confirmed that my way of taking care was right. The new flower encouraged me. I loved to take care of these roses.

I asked Totof to take care of my roses when I went back to Taiwan. These roses were in good shape after I came back.

Now, I see my roses require sunshine and water. With enough sunshine, not too strong, my roses grow. My roses grow more in summer time than in spring time. In summer, new stems appeared often. The current challenge I have is to have new flowers. I have not seen any new flowers since April. Maybe roses only have flowers in winter and spring time. Maybe my roses need some fertilizers. Maybe I need to move these roses to a bigger pottery.
