Shanghai restaurant

How to tell you these dishes are good?

It is a challenge. Another challenge is that the English translations for Chinese dishes vary. If you don't have knowledge on Chinese dishes, you might end up ordering something not authentic.

Totof and I go to eat at Shanghai dinning places often. The best Shanghai place we know is in Daly City. This restaurant is quite hard to find though. If you never been there, you might end up going to another place. Totof had the restaurant's business card. However, his GPS did not recognize this place. The GPS led us to a wrong place. We circled around. Based on Totof's memory, we decided to take Skyline blvd. After 30 min, we found this restaurant in a Ranch 99 plaza.

We guessed this place was run by a family. The services were quite friendly. We went there for lunch. But we arrived after 2 pm (the lost time). All employees were ready for their lunch. We asked if the restaurant was still open. They gave us a positive answer. We were relieved. The menu was simple.

We saw a whole fish was on the employee table. It looked quite tasty. I asked the waiter if we could have the same dish. The waiter hesitated. Then smiled at us with a nod. But she said she needed to ask someone to go to Ranch 99 to get a fish for us since we only had 2 people and could not finish a big fish. It was unusual. How many restaurants would go to market to get a fish after the order? Their friendly attitude amazed us.

We also saw a pork dish on the employee table. Looked good. Basically, we ordered two dishes after we consulted the employee table. We ordered three dishes with Shanghai Vegetable Rice (see the first photo).

All dishes were excellent. If you would like to try some Shanghai dishes, you can consider this place. All dishes are mild, not too salty. Fish is fresh. The Shanghai Vegetable Rice is the best we have ever had.
